The Muslim Brotherhood – Whether You Like It Or Not

I can’t believe that people even listen to Michele Bachmann anymore. In my view, Michele Bachmann is a pathological liar and a charlatan at best. Lately, she has been badmouthing a civil servant who happens to be a Muslim-American working at the Department of State, for having personal ties to people connected to the Muslim Brotherhood – as if that would present any inkling of treasonous behavior.

The latest to pop out from Bachmann’s bassinet of lies is a smear campaign against Huma Abedin, the deputy chief of staff to Hilary Clinton. Huma has served under Clinton in several roles, and is a personal friend of John McCain, who defended her reputation characterizing her as, “what is best about America.” (That is an awesome compliment!)  That Muslim-American Huma is married to Jewish former Congressman Anthony Weiner* should attest to her ultimate American-ness. (Melting pots rule!)

The Muslim Brotherhood is not our enemy. And, like it or not, the Muslim Brotherhood is a democratically elected political party heading the newly formed parliament in the single most populous and only recently freed country in the Middle East (Egypt, for those who live under a rock). The United States must solidify diplomatic ties with Brotherhood leadership and any other party that may come to head the Egyptian Parliament – via a fairly contested election process – to protect our national security interests. To make an enemy out of the Muslim Brotherhood would be disastrous for U.S.-Middle Eastern diplomacy.

The real fact is, Michele Bachmann is quite simply a McCarthy-like conspiracy theorist, a religious fundamentalist, a liar, and an alarmist who will do anything she can to protect and codify her far-from-mainstream religious beliefs, even if her actions are unpatriotic and damaging to our nation.

In contrast to Bachmann, Huma Abedin has a reputation of personal loyalty, trustworthiness, patriotism, openness and plain old hard work and perseverance. She is a noble, stalwart woman.  That is something to be commended.

*I sure do miss Anthony Weiner in Congress. That man is a firebrand! I can’t wait to see his next steps in public office.

  1. I am not really sure why I’m bothering to comment on this blog, since your hero Weiner, the “firebrand,” is a sexual deviant and an adulterer who disrespected someone (Abedin) who you’re stoutly defending here. At the very least, your judgement appears to be … impaired. However, let me do my best to use some very basic logic to sway some of your readers, who may be in a more capable state, from believing some of the garbage you’ve spewed about this page. I find it humorous to read your disdain for Christians, when Muslims are the religious right on steroids … and you’re good with that.

Allah is our objective; the Quran is our law, the Prophet is our leader; Jihad is our way; and death for the sake of Allah is the highest of our aspirations.

Jihad – A religious war with those who are unbelievers in the mission of Muhammad … enjoined especially for the purpose of advancing Islam and repelling evil from Muslims.

Yeah… they sound swell. By their own accord, and contrary to a claim you’ve made in your blog, the Muslim Brotherhood is a movement, not a political party. Therefore, the party ideals cannot be separated from that movement. The goal of their movement is stated above. They want to kill us. Their mantra is that we’re their enemy. How can they possibly not be ours?!

Our current administration, in their infinite wisdom and vast expertise in foreign policy, has funded the Muslim Brotherhood’s movement in the M.E.. They’ve successfully toppled dictator after dictator, who have kept these people in check for decades. These dictators were not nice people. However, look who has replaced them! They will not be appeased by our nation bowing to them in fear of a terrorist attack. We don’t need to appease them. Our military is superior than their collective strength and we are not afraid. They’re going to come after us, whether we’re nice to them or not. We’d best be ready for it – and not subsidize it.

Back to the original topic, Huma Abedin has ties to family who have ties to the Brotherhood, who have recently seized almost total influence over the middle east. By nearly every definition, they’re our enemy. She has direct access to those within our government who have made that happen. Has she played a part in influencing our leaders? It’s a fair question, but not a necessary one.

Whether or not it’s ok to you or to me, she never would have received a security clearance with those ties, but she’s in a position that has absolutely no excuse for not requiring one. The questions Bachman is raising should have been raised long ago – by a security investigation team.

    1. What began as a movement, has become a political force. Egypt is a sovereign country, a UN member, and a powerful force in the Middle East. The US has funded Egyptian security for two decades. To about face because the Egyptian people have overthrown their dictator and established a democracy is hypocritical and short-sighted. The Muslim Brotherhood is now a majority political power. Your religious sentiments don’t change that. And even if they are as hostile as you believe, better to keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

As far as Weiner, he made mistakes. He paid for them. And he pays solace to his wife (not you) every day in her honor. Anthony Weiner owes you nothing.

Huma Abedin has served honorably in Hilary Clinton’s administration and deserves respect, not defamation.

If one’s familial associations were indictment enough to warrant federal investigation, a quarter of U.S. legislators would probably face the judicial chopping block. Another finds fault where others see grace. There are undoubtedly many Muslim and non-Muslim Americans holding security clearance for which someone could choose to attack their integrity. The difference between honorable people and Michele Bachmann is, honorable people don’t lie to make their point.
